What is it?

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)is a neurodevelopmental difference that affects how you focus, manage impulses, and handle activity levels. There are different types, some people are more hyperactive, some are more inattentive (daydreamy or distracted), and others are a mix of both.

Challenges

  • Trouble focusing or sitting still

  • Getting distracted or forgetting things

  • Blurting things out or making quick decisions

  • Feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, or like you’re “always in trouble”

  • Difficulties with organising schoolwork or staying on track

Gender Differences

ADHD can look different depending on your gender:

  • Boys are often more physically active or impulsive, their ADHD might be spotted earlier because they find it hard to sit still or follow rules.

  • Girls are more likely to have inattentive-type ADHD, they may seem quiet, dreamy, or “off in their own world,” so their struggles are often missed.

  • Non-binary and gender-diverse young people may experience a mix of traits and can also face extra stress around masking or being misunderstood.

👉 Some people hide their challenges really well, which can delay diagnosis or support.

Strengths

  • Super creative and full of ideas

  • Fast thinker and quick problem-solver

  • Great in high-energy situations or multitasking

  • Often funny, lively, and original

  • Brings fresh perspective and big-picture thinking

Important: These are patterns, not rules.
